Alex Manly cemented her lead with another win on the final stage of LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour Sunday. The Team BikeExchange-Jayco rider won four out of six stages to secure the overall victory.
Kicking off the six-day tour by winning the first three stages (Alex Manly won stages one and three, Georgia Baker won stage two), Team BikeExchange-Jayco continued their strong team work to score two more victories in the second half of the week.
With another uphill sprint finish, Manly secured the win on stage four, a 127km circuit course in Schleiz. On Saturday, another jersey made an appearance on the top step. Ukrainian rider Yuliia Biriukova made an early breakaway and held the lead for more than 95km to secure the stage win. Just four seconds behind her, Manly won the sprint for second to extend her lead in the overall to 31 seconds before the final day of racing.
Over 104.3km of rolling terrain, stage six demanded continued hard work from Team BikeExchange-Jayco to respond to several attacks and keep the race under control. The bunch came back together for another uphill sprint finish. Manly launched her attack early and powered to the line to secure a memorable victory to cap off her nearly flawless run in Germany. She won the general classification as well as the points race.
“The girls rode on the front all day, they controlled the race, and I just got to sit and be patient and go for it on the final climb and into the finish,” said Manly. “I always had confidence [in our ability to do it], but in a bike race you never know what’s going to happen! I was really just trying to stay focused and keep switched on, so that I didn’t crash or do something silly. My team-mates were incredible today, and every day of this week, and I’m just so grateful to them.”
