Tyler Jacobs Podiums at the Tankwa Trek in South Africa!

Tyler Jacobs and teammate Sara Cortinovis finish in third place at the four-day stage race - the Tankwa Trek.

Liv Factory Racing athlete Tyler Jacobs and teammate Sara Cortinovis (Ghost) secure a podium finish at the Momentum Medical Scheme Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen - finishing third in the UCI Women’s General Classification. Racing on her Pique Advanced 29, Jacobs rode alongside Cortinovis as the Ghost-Liv Racing team and completed the stage race with an overall time of 13:33:15 (+49:58).

Held in Koue Bokkeveld, South Africa, the Tankwa Trek spans 270 kilometers with 5,400 meters of climbing. The challenging course pushes riders to navigate rugged terrain and exposed tracks over four days. “I was very nervous, but once the prologue was out of the way, the nerves settled,” said Jacobs. “I am happy to report that despite four days of rough, rocky, and dusty conditions, my bike ran smoothly throughout with no issues!”

Reflecting on the race, Jacobs shared her goals: “My expectations were to race hard, learn, and grow through the experience - which I did! Sara and I also ended up third, which was an added bonus. Team racing is really something else, there’s something special about suffering through with a partner.” One of her favorite moments came during the most challenging climb of the race, the Merino Monster. “When we were almost at the top, my teammate raced ahead to fill my bottle and had a cup of water ready that she threw over my head, so we were ready as quickly as possible for the descent. It was teamwork at its finest.”

With the Tankwa Trek behind her, Jacobs will focus on recovery before heading to the South Africa XCO Cup Series in Cape Town on March 1st.
