Alison Jackson secured her first podium of the season Friday at Drentse Acht van Westerveld, sprinting to second from a reduced group.

The 15th edition of Drentse Act van Westerveld covered a 134.2 km route, starting and finishing in Dwingeloo with several cobbled sectors. Throughout the race, Jackson fought to stay in the first group by staying alert when echelons formed. The peloton split before the finish, with four riders going to the line for a reduced bunch sprint. Jackson finished second aboard her Langma Advanced SL Disc.

“The race was hard from the start with all the wind,” said Jackson. “Echelons were formed and I stayed in the front. In the finale, I jumped with the right group. I covered a lot of moves in the final local lap as I was the best sprinter there. Maybe I did a little bit too much. In the sprint, it was close between Majerus and me, but she took it. I am really happy to take my first podium so early in the season. It is a good start of the year with the team, and I am excited what we can do in the upcoming races.”
