Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider Josh Carlson captured his second straight Australian national championship title in the men’s E-XC race in Tasmania. The 34-year-old took the lead early and held off the chasers to defend his title.
Carlson chose his Trance X E+ Pro 29 for the hilly racetrack at Maydena Bike Park, which challenged riders with a mix of tough climbs, fast descents and rocky, technical singletrack.
“The course was super steep and made for a tough four laps,” said Carlson, who wore his Giant Rail SX helmet and Line trail shoes to earn the title. “I hit the first lap really hard to establish a lead and managed the rest of the race with a solid steady pace to come away with the win.”
Equipment choice was a key factor for the contenders, and Carlson said his bike and gear selections helped put him in position to win. “With all the descending I decided to run my Trance X E+ Pro 29’s flip chip in the low setting and ran Maxxis Assegai EXO+ MaxxTerra tires front and rear to roll fast but have enough bite to climb the technical steep sections.”
With his first major goal of the 2021 season achieved, Carlson now turns his attention toward the E-enduro race season. “I’ve been working hard over the summer to be ready for the upcoming season, and this was one of my top early-season goals,” he said. “I’m really pumped to have everything go to plan heading into the E-Enduro World Series.”
