After an early breakaway, Alison Jackson rode to her first Women’s WorldTour victory ahead of the peloton in stage one of the Simac Ladies Tour. The win moved Jackson into the general classification leaders jersey as well as two more classification leads: combativity and mountain.

Liv Racing WorldTeam athlete Alison Jackson backed up her finishes at last week’s Tour of Norway with her first-ever Women’s WorldTour win on Wednesday. After finishing just 15 seconds off the win in Tuesday’s short time trial prologue, Jackson went on the attack early in stage one of the Simac Ladies Tour. Just 25km into the 134km stage, she saw an opportunity and made a break. Jackson was joined at the front by two more riders, sharing the work and extending their lead to over two minutes with 68km to go. With 20km left in the stage, the sprint teams organized further to bring Jackson’s lead down to 1 minute, and to 22 seconds with 5km left. Their efforts were not enough, and Jackson sprinted to victory aboard her Langma Advanced SL Disc with a four second gap to the chasing peloton.

“Every kilometre we came closer to the finish, it got more exciting,” said Jackson. “We had tailwind at the end. Before that, we pushed each other to ride as hard as we could at the front to make the gap big enough. Behind us, our teams tried to slow down the peloton. Whether I thought we could make it? You never count on it, but when you decide to attack you have to believe in it. If you believe you can do it, you get motivation from that. As a team, we always ride to win.”

With four more stages left in the Simac Ladies Tour, Jackson heads into tomorrows individual time trial stage wearing the leader’s jersey.
