GIANT MTB RACERS KICK OFF 2021 SEASON WITH PODIUM FINISHES!

The 2021 race season is underway for some of the riders on the Giant Factory Off-Road Team, and their opening weeks produced wins and podiums at early-season races in Turkey and Australia.

Reto Indergand and Antoine Philipp were in Alanya, Turkey, for a pair of back-to-back UCI events. Indergand finished first and third while Philipp finished second at both weekend races.

“It’s good to be back on the racetrack at the season opener in Alayna,” said the Swiss rider Indergand following his win on his Anthem Advanced Pro 29 race bike. “A win on Saturday and third-place on Sunday was such a great start to the season. I feel confident going into the season seeing that the training numbers and results are matching, and I hope to continue moving in this direction leading into the first World Cup in Albstadt [Germany].”

Both Indergand and Philipp wore their Giant Rev Pro helmets and Charge Pro shoes. With their podium performances, both earned valuable points to help them earn a good starting position at upcoming World Cup races.

Meanwhile, two Giant Factory Off-Road Team riders in Australia—Josh Carlson and Cameron Wright—opened their seasons close to home. Carlson, focusing on E-bike racing this year, collected two wins at different events. The first was at a national-level E-XC race in Canberra, the second at the opening race of the Australian E-Bike National Cup, held at the Green Valley Mountain Bike Park in Tongarra. Carlson used his Trance X E+ Pro 29 E-bike for both events.

Carlson's enduro victory also earned him the state championship in New South Wales. "This race marked the first ever E-bike only race in Australia," he said. "It's exciting and indicative of the growing E-MTB scene here in Australia. After seeing the course, which was a mix of rowdy and fast rolling terrain, I decided to race my Trance X E+ Pro 29 with an enduro focused spec. It ended up feeling great. After some close racing in serious summer heat, I came away with another win. It feels good to be racing hard these last two weekends heading into our National Championship in a few weeks."

At the XC race in Canberra, the 20-year-old Wright, who races in the Under-23 category at international events, made the move up to the Elite Men’s class and was able to score the podium finish. “It was time to race with the big boys,” he said. “I knew this was going to be a different kind of racing and be a more tactical one.”

Wright, racing his Anthem Advanced Pro 29, said he was able to pace himself well to finish second behind the day’s winner Dan McConnell. “My sights are now set on defending my national title in mid-March down in Maydena, Tasmania.”
